Elytra is the technical name of the wing guards on beetles. Currently the closest thing we have to a beetle in MC is the Endermite… I want there to be a mini-boss to fight called the Hercules-Endermite that hovers around and snaps you with its jaws and warps to you whenever you attempt to teleport
Elytra (the word) is a part of beetles wings that covers the wings up with chitin,
so it's part of an extinct beetle.

I always thought the Elytra was made of feathers.
I mean none of the loot you find in the end cities is stuff you can get from the end so it was clearly brought over from the overworld, it would still make sense for it to be made from phantom wings and just brought to the end with the rest of the loot

They should just remove it. Always hated them anyways, think its a stupid item that takes away from exploration
Phantom membranes should be able to make Phantom Item Frames. Replace leather with Membrane, and the sticks with Breeze Rods to get an item frame that turns invisible when an item is placed inside. Invisible item frames in survival.
Ok you also cant find diamonds in the end either so why so much diamond gear? Ngl its probably not that deep

I’m pretty sure the word “Elytra” means beetle wings. Meaning there were probably ender beetles that went extinct. But that’s just a theory
There phantom wings bc ancient builders used them to to get around faster
My assumption is that it’s not the dragons wings directly, but rather its shed scales, as the light grey coloration resembles sheddings from reptiles, such as the ender dragon

I would guess that phantoms once lived in the end, and preyed upon the ancient people who built the end cities, flew the end ships, and couldn't sleep without exploding. And when these people left or died out, the end phantoms did too
