I recently bought two used gaming PCs on eBay. One cost just £36, the other £120. But what’s inside them, and what are they capable of in 2024? Let’s take a look!

  1. I used to have the Antec 300. I built a 2600k system with that case around 2011. 🤪

So…they threw in a free Pallet card, eh? 😀

The work of cleaning those PC is already worth the price you pay. If I am the owner of these systems, I would keep them if I have the ability to do so.

The Air 540, I got it even before it was released in this country, and im still using it to this very day. Great cooling, great looks. One of the first dual chamber chassis.

I only just recently upgraded from an i5 2500k. It ran perfectly, overclocked to 4.2ghz for over 10 years.

    That's no Pigeon, . . That's Dave !! . . . came by to say Hi.
I absolutely love that Corsair case.

Both cases are great for cheap custom NAS servers, especially the Antec case.

Maybe stick the 6600 XT to the 7700K system, Steve? 😀

I had the GTX560 back in the day. Used it from late 2011 until early 2021, when I finally upgraded my desktop.

PC2 is almost pretty balanced, just needs an overclock to help support that 3050.

YOOOO A Corsair Carbide Air! I used one of those for my Haswell build in 2013… and actually still use it to this day. I loved it so much I built my brand new system inside it as well. Roomy, easy to work on and in, tons of airflow, and can fit enormous modern GPUs with no trouble. Having a functional CD / DVD drive in a modern system is kinda fun as well.

    G'day Random,
We have a similar problem down here with the newer i7 4c/8t CPUs being STOOPID expensive used,
While i7-7700 have now dropped to about $130-$150AUD when I upgraded my nieces PC last year I got a used i3-10100F + B560M for $165AUD

    Lol, Harry is so cute.

I really like that chonky case – and I especially like the cable management room. Can't wait to see what you do with that.

G'day Harry, you did a very good job protecting your hoomans making sure there was nothing dangerous in the parcel & from the Bad Guy Bird

While the channel is not really about it, the second case is quite interesting for a potential server build considering you can put 6 hard drives in it and maybe a few more with two IcyDocks in place of the disc drives.

I'm running a 2500K paired with a RX 550 in my HTPC/Media server – it's a pretty decent combo for my use case! You can't expect too much from it obviously, but for low demand couch games like Fall Guys, Overcooked, and Unrailed it does the job most times at 1080p 60fps and medium-ish settings. Looking forward to your video, seeing what you pair it with and how it performs for you! It was my daily driver through some of my Uni years, definitely a nostalgic chip for me…

Thumbs up for the doggo! 😊

That Corsair air 540 case is hard to find now.

I recently got that same Antec case! Got it from my local E-waste recycling center for $15 and I am currently working on a case Mod for it. Spray painted the interior all matte black and removed the unnecessary drive bays so far. Might cut out the side panel and install tempered glass/ plexiglass soon.

I was wondering, how is the market for used parts? Are there really a lot of people looking for used systems or do you have to wait a few months in order to find a buyer?
