STAY AWAY from aging but cheap refurbished computers and buy them only after you have verified that they can at least be upgraded to Windows 11! With Windows 10 having just about two years left, after which support ends, buying super cheap computers that can’t be upgraded to Windows 11 is just…

Good to see this bloke getting CLOWNED on in the comments – then doubling down and looking like even more of a fool.

Good work YouTube comments section for keeping the bastards honest.

  2. No one gives a fk about windows 11. Recently bought my 73yr young computer scientist neighbour a lenevo mini pc for 40$ , i7 4770 for 12$ 16gb ram for 5$ 500gb ssd for 30$ and he is impressed with the speed. His previous laptop had an amd a4 dog shit cpu with 2gb ram and hdd so he could not even do emails properly. Now he got a 27inch full hd screen and a fast silent mini pc. Even this decade old i7 has enough power to play 1080p youtube without a hitch. And multi task his emails , facebook and college work.
Man was impressed by the size of this pc. He couldn't believe how tiny it was compared to the main frames he used work on back in the 60s 70s.

I run Win 11 on a 2500k an 2011 cpu paired with 16GB DDR3 1600mhz eaassssy. Like no big difference for the basic tasks. I use it in the living room for a nas server, multimedia pc and moonlight gamestream on TV. It's not playing the latest triple A games or latest software, but it does the job perfectly.
Also the PC u've shown are perfect for these kind of tasks or even rPi-like tasks, running some linux distro like dietpi or something lightweight and do any of the server nas/vpn/dns role perfectly.

Hello John, algorithm led me here but I have to say you are not making yourself any new friends with your analysis here, as hardware is not software – or in this case an operating system. I don't know anything about pcmag I have to say, they look shady at least, I would agree with you, but who the f reads those marketing pages of buzzwords? Specs are the only thing we should be interested in and for that it is a somewhat great deal. Where I think you would be wrong is what you would think a person like me would do with any computer I get, wether it is modern, brandnew, refurbished, or even gifted – I would wipe all the drives and install the os myself (any Linux in my case) or Win if you insist, just to get (some) bloat off it.
What's really naiive is thinking that Win10 will get insecure by 2025, when it may not be supported anymore – but I guess you really mean, by how much more insecure it will get compared to the utter insecurity by todays Win10/11? 😀
Your argument about "ai cpu instructions in 5 years" is hilarious at least, honest question: do you really know how a cpu works? I don't think so, you should study it!

This is probably the worst advise I have ever heard. Not everyone is buying computers to stay up with Windows 11… These older PCs are perfect for home lab users. Linux and may other OS, don't give a Duck about what year your device was built or what other companies support with their OS. This person is so full of a steaming pile of stuff. Most people with common sense are not buying old machines to stay current but to use what is working within budget. Got spend 3k + on top of the line if that's what you want. If you want a simple home lab that is power efficient and within most low-end budgets, by that 6000 – 8000 T series CPU It works fine and still will save you bucks on power usage. What's SCAMMY if anything is how crap like this is allowed to stay on YouTube as clickbait for sir troll poster to try to make a few pennies.

Bold of you to assume i don't use a 2009 Macbook Pro as a daily driver with Os X el capitan

  7. blank

as an consumer there will be tricks to run win 10

"STAY AWAY from aging but cheap refurbished computers and buy them only after you have verified that they can at least be upgraded to Windows 11!"
dude this guy works for microsoft, no sane person would actually say this and mean it XD

  9. blank

WHAT ? You say Windows 10 is BAD ? 16 GB BAD ? NOT BEING UPDATED BAD ? 512GB SSD BA- DUDE, MY SSD IS HALF OF THAT ! I STILL USE WINDOWS 7 ON A MACBOOK PRO AS A DAILY DRIVER WHEN IM AT SCHOOL ! 1 WORD, US GOVERNEMENT. (they use Windows XP.)

  10. blank

Usnupported pcs from less than 10 years will run Windows 11 just fine you simply need add to registry values to bypass the requirements (keep in mind that the instalation can sometimes cause compatbility issues but in my 2017 amd laptop it ran just fine even through its unsupported.

  11. blank

Take it from me, the people who buy these pcs are either PC enthusiasts that want a cheap special use system, going to immediately install Linux or going to rock windows 10 till its like Windows XP.

  12. blank

This guy does not have a clue. This is one of the problems of the internet, everyone and their dog can post whatever they want, whether it's true or not.

  13. blank

7th generation CPUs are far from obsolete. Just imagine 7th Gen cpus for an apple and an egg. homelab will never be this cheap again

  14. blank

This video just goes to show that you dont know anything about computers. As of now almost every computer can have win 11 installed even if the hardware is technically unsupported you can easily bypass the hardware requirements for win 11.Apart from that not everyone has the money to buy a new computer and not a slighter lower end refurbished ,so whatever you are saying in this video is total bs.All of this coming from a profesionall computers technianNext time do a bit of research before uploading a video.

  15. blank

Ah yes, something saying bullsh*t on Youtube, because he talks on a subject he barely knows anything of.

  16. blank

but first of all, not everyone wants to switch to Windows 11 (and in addition, it can be installed without major problems on 6th generation processors – I tested Win11 myself on i5-6200u and 8GB of RAM – it works without a problem), in 2024, a lot of people still use Windows 7/ 8 – which, despite the lack of support, work without any problems. And speaking of support, more and more people don't want their computer to be connected to Ms. servers forever. I manage several computers myself, and after installing the operating system, I spent several hours on each of them to disable all updates, synchronization, and connections to servers copying your data – such as spelling, sound, location, wifi networks… and a whole lot of others. that's why your video is very inappropriate!! In two years, people will still be using Win10, 8, 7… not gamers, but HP mini desk computers are not used for gaming. True?

  17. blank

Rookie 😂 Just because Windows 11 doesn't support the CPU doesn't mean it's E-Waste, unless you are a noob end-user, which you obviously are. Machines with older CPUs make excellent Linux computers (which is better than Winblows anyways) and servers. Furthermore, I have Win 11 installed on a 4th gen i7 desktop PC used for gaming. You can install Windows 11 on anything if you bypass TPM. Plenty of videos on how to do that by real tech channels.

  18. blank

Here we have a windows 11 fanboy ranting about how old pcs are a scam

  19. blank

Why would anyone even want to use Windows on a PC like this? Surely people are not buying computers like this for heavy windows-only apps or games.

  20. blank

bullshit. It depends what you need a computer for. Fuck windows, dude. The latest version of Ubuntu works on a $100 mac from 2009. If all you want is browsing and a bit of music or youtube.

  21. blank

Just install Linux, then it's not a scam

  22. blank

ha lol if you can run windows 11 under 16 GB god luck with that

  23. blank

dude you can install windows 11 even on single core Pentium d650 and up works but not in upgrade manner

  24. blank

Sorry man, but this video is just plain wrong. Windows 11 does work on 6th gen. I am running it smoothly on 3rd gen even. Heck, I successfully installed Win 11 on Core 2 Duo – a 15 year old chip! Next time do some research. Refurb computers are great, especially considering that Linux will work just fine on most of them.

  25. blank

i can feel the russian speaking while wearing a john mask

  26. blank

You can easily get windows 11 running on these computers with a registry edit. Furthermore, you're going to have a hard time finding a "windows 11 compatible" system for under $200 so I don't know how you could call people selling perfectly functional computers a scam. The stuff about not being able to run AI programs is nonsense, only the absolute newest Intel Core Ultra CPUs have a NPU and good luck getting one of those CPUs by itself for under $200. This video is hopefully just a misinformed opinion, and not shilling by the electronics industry to get people to buy new expensive PCs they dont't really need.

  27. blank

  28. blank

i just bought terminal with 4 core cpu(gx-420gi), 8GB of ram and 128GB ssd, i'll install windows 7 and it will work just fine for another 4 years(or some linux still thinking bout that)
    -Total cost = 42$

  29. blank

Stop telling wrong information. These are NOT a scam. These will run Linux like a brand new machine for the next several years. I have several of these computers, and am absolutely amazed by the performance for so cheap. 7th gen i5 7600T CPU Lenovo SSF desktops , 16GB DDR4, 500GB 3rd gen m.2 drive, gigabit wifi … these are the opposite of a scam. They even have space inside for a second 2.5" hard drive or SSD. Plus, you can run a slightly modified version of Win11 that doesn't have the 8th gen+ CPU requirements.

2:30 is peak comedy. "After 2023 they forced OEMS to stop selling crap that boots off slow hard drives."
Your "evidence" is… a suggestion from M$ to use solid-state storage. They didn't force anything.
Best Buy, right now sells at least 14 new laptops with Windows 11 with an HDD as the boot device.
That number goes to 40 if you include refurbs, though the manufacture of those is likely to predate 2023.

Newegg has seven pages of laptops that fit the description of: no SSD, has hard drive, ships with Windows 11.
There are at least 120 matching the description of *new*, no SSD, has hard drive, ships with Windows 11.

So… yes, you absolutely can buy a new computer in 2024 (which is after 2023) with a slow hard drive boot device.
That's in accordance with… you know… M$ making a soft recommendation rather than the supposed requirement you spouted off about.

  31. blank

bold of you to assume I am running windows

  32. blank

A cheap refurbished computer from 2018, with intel 8th gen Kabylake-Refresh CPU, will run Windows 11. A cheap refurbed computer from 2019 with AMD Zen+ CPUs will run Windows 11. No hacks or workarounds needed.

  33. blank

One (1) registry entry suddenly makes them completely-compatible with Windows 11.
    My 6700K? Running Windows 11.
    My 1700? Running Windows 11.
    My 7500U? Running Windows 11.

Many Windows 11 computers in U.S. don’t have:
    Environment
    Voice Cancellation
    Pitch Shift
    Equalizer
    Loudness Equalization
This is why I love refurbished ones.
